How Do I...
Make An Appointment?
We have appointments for the doctors, the treatment room nurses, the phlebotomist, the midwife, dietician
and the South Gloucestershire drug action team.
Patients are able to see any doctor of their choice and express their preference. However, we try to
encourage patients to see their own doctor whenever possible. We find that this helps the doctor and
patient to get to know and understand each other better, and ensures that your doctor will always be aware
that he or she is responsible for your long-term care. If your own doctor is not available at a time when
you need to be seen you can, of course, see another doctor instead.
Surgery consultations are by appointment only. We do try to keep to time with our appointments but on
occasions delays are unavoidable. Please let us know if you are unable to keep an appointment.
If you are over 75 and have not been seen within the last year, or aged between 16 and 75 and have not
been seen within the last three years, you may request a consultation with the practice nurse.
Urgent Appointments
If you need to see the doctor urgently, please ring 980 5700 and speak to the receptionist, who will take
your details and either give you an appointment for a telephone consultation, or an appointment to see the
doctor. If it is an emergency, you will be put through to the doctor on call.
Chaperone
If a personal examination is necessary, we are able to offer a chaperone. If this is required please
inform the doctor.
How Do I...
Obtain Telephone Advice?
The doctors and nurses are available for telephone advice. This may not be immediately because
interruptions during surgery are avoided where possible. The receptionist will take a message, ask the doctor
or nurse to return your call, or ask you to ring back when she knows the doctor or nurse will be free. If you
require other sources of advice, NHS Direct is a 24-hour nurse-led advice service providing health information
and advice on 0845 4647. Information can also be obtained online at
www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk
How Do I...
Obtain A Home Visit?
Home visits are reserved for the housebound. If at all possible, please come to the surgery as we have far
more medical facilities to offer there and home visits take a greater amount of the doctor's time, which could
be used for seeing several patients in the surgery.
How Do I...
Obtain Test Results?
Please phone after 11.00am for results. The receptionist will pass on any comment made by the doctor. It is
advisable to phone to check results have been returned to the practice. Some results take a few days and
others may take weeks. Please ask the person who is doing your test, how soon to phone for the result.
